Hello everyone,
I have been involved with Habitat for Humanity for over 20 years. I have observed our Affiliate grow from 20 houses to over 100 houses and it is exciting to see our Affiliate now embarking on its first small multi-home development. Please join me in helping to get the infrastructure built for 9 homes in Crystal Lake.
If you are not a familiar with how Habitat for Humanity works, it is the original concept of a hand up, not a hand out. A community of both business and personal efforts helps to build an affordable house for a family that must meet 3 criteria...
1. Need. What is the financial and living circumstances for the family that is applying?
2. Willingness to Partner. A Habitat family must contribute 250 hours of sweat equity per adult on behalf of Habitat for Humanity. Often this is work on their own home or a future Habitat homeowner's house.
3. Ability to Pay. A Habitat Homeowner is provided with a low cost home at an interest free mortgage. The homeowner must have consistent, verifiable income and a good credit history.
The best part of working with Habitat for Humanity is attending a House Blessing. As Rebba McIntyre states in one of the commercial's that she has done...to a Habitat Home Owner, the key to their home is precious metal. Often there won't be a dry eye in the house during a House Blessing.
Please reflect on all your own memories as a child growing up in your home and help me support the effort to provide hard working people with an opportunity to provide their families with that same experience.
Thanks for your support.
